Tourette Syndrome Foundation of Canada Conference 2013

The Tourette Syndrome Foundation of Canada’s National Conference has been an invaluable experience in our lives. I have been attending the conference since 2009 when it was held in Mississauga, Ontario.  It was here I first encountered Ken Shyminsky but it wasn’t until 2010 that we found common ground between us and through the Tourette Syndrome Foundation of Canada’s Conference.  The conference has always been invaluable providing a high-value lineup of expert speakers, (including Ken Shyminsky), inspiring sessions and engaging activities.  The experience offers a weekend of growth, friendship building and learning.

Meeting others who share the same concerns and experiences provides comfort.  Just knowing you are not alone in your struggles alleviates some of the burden or stress.  Sharing what you have learned and helping others in your situation makes lifts your spirit and makes any struggles you may have had worthwhile.

The conference offers programmes for all members of the family affected by Tourette Syndrome and associated disorders as well as an educator’s track.  There are separate programmes for all attending:

  • Programmes for Children, those with and without Tourette Syndrome with fun activities and learning, self awareness and new relationships
  • Youth Programme providing leadership training, social skills and work skills
  • General Programme for parents and family members providing great learning from excellent speakers, new friendships and the very important tips for self care
  • Educator’s track for those who work with children and young adults which provides education and awareness about relevant neurological disorders
